Sexual battery at Wesley Woods Hospital
On March 8, a 31-year-old male bit a 28-year-old patient on her butt while she was asleep in the psychiatric ward of the Wesley Woods Hospital.
The male was in the hospital due to a court order. The female reported that she was asleep on her stomach when she felt the male bite her and then screamed for help.
A doctor examined her and said there were no bite marks or other injuries, but Shoemaker said the patient was interested in pressing charges.
EPD will pursue the case pending the male’s release from the court-mandated psychiatric treatment, Shoemaker said.
Possession of drug-related objects
On March 3, EPD received a call from Building F on the Clairmont campus saying an RA saw a marijuana grinder in the common area of a student’s apartment. Shoemaker said the RA was in the room for an “unrelated reason.”
The student who lived in the apartment was not present, so the campus director was called along with EPD, Shoemaker said. The director told the RA to retrieve the grinder to place in EPD possession. The RA also found another grinder and a bong.

Second-degree burglary at the School of Medicine
On March 1, an executive administrative assistant at the Emory School of Medicine noticed her Apple iMac keyboard was missing after leaving her office locked on Feb. 24 for the weekend. Her office is part of a suite with the deans on the fourth floor of the building.
As of March 21, the keyboard has not been found. According to Shoemaker, EPD is looking for the “usual avenues” for stolen objects, such as pawning.
This burglary case is still under investigation.
Stalking at Harris Hall
A female student reported to EPD that several male students were stalking her. The men’s actions “made her feel unsafe,” according to Shoemaker.
In one of the incidents reported, a male student showed up to Harris Hall looking for her room. The female student did not want him to know where she lived.
Shoemaker said EPD is making sure she is connected with the appropriate resources on campus in addition to following up on her allegations.
This case is still under investigation.
First-degree burglary at Mason Guest House
On Feb. 27, EPD was dispatched to a burglary at the Mason Guest House, which is a residential facility on the Clairmont campus that accommodates transplant patients and their families.
EPD found a 34-year-old female who was not affiliated with Emory or the Mason Guest House in the kitchen. She told EPD she was looking for her ex-husband and children who had no affiliation to the facility, according to Shoemaker.
After attempting to run away from the officers, they determined she was likely experiencing a “mental health emergency,” Shoemaker said, so EPD called emergency medical services.
Shoemaker said the woman refused to stop fighting the officers and attempted to kick the sergeant before being placed in handcuffs. EPD searched her and found that she was in possession of a knife.
She refused evaluation when emergency medical services arrived. Due to her refusal, she was detained for emergency involuntary mental health treatment and taken to Emory Decatur Hospital.
