Fivio Foreign will headline the Homecoming concert on Oct. 14. Rich the Kid and Baby Tate will open the show, which will be held on McDonough Field. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Student Programming Council (SPC) announced the lineup in an email on Thursday. This is the first time three artists will perform at the Homecoming concert.
SPC’s band party chairs, Sean Sheikowitz (24C), Brendt Wang (23C) and Minna Thompson (24B), organized the event. They wrote in an email to the Wheel that they wanted to host a show “Emory has never seen before.”
Sheikowitz, Wang and Thompson consulted feedback from previous concerts to make this year’s event “an entire experience,” SPC President Anna Sotirescu (24C) wrote in an email to the Wheel.
“SPC is truly excited to bring these three incredible artists onto campus!” Sotirescu wrote. “We hope Emory undergraduates enjoy their night celebrating the kick-off to an amazing Homecoming Week (with the theme being Swoop’s Cinema)!”
Diverging from last year, SPC will not sell concert guest passes this year, Sotirescu added. Sotirescu said Student Involvement, Leadership, and Transitions told her they made this decision to “promote the safety and well-being” of the attendees.
This is the fifth consecutive Homecoming concert featuring a rapper as the headlining performer, starting with Waka Flocka Flame in 2018. Rico Nasty performed in 2019, followed by Jack Harlow in 2021 and Swae Lee in 2022. There was no Homecoming concert in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fivio Foreign, who the SPC band party chairs called an “up-and-coming drill artist,” has over 8.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify. “MILANO” is his most popular song as a solo artist on the platform, garnering three million streams.
“B.I.B.L.E.” is Fivio Foreign’s only album and peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart. He released his latest single, “Why Would I?” on Oct. 6.
Lil Tjay’s “Headshot” featuring Fivio Foreign is the headlining rapper’s highest charting song, peaking at No. 42 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Fivio Foreign collaborated on multiple songs with Lil Tjay, including “Bla Bla” and “Not In The Mood.” He has released songs with other artists as well, including City Girls, Quavo and French Montana.
Rich the Kid is best known for “Plug Walk” and his song with Kendrick Lamar, “New Freezer,” which have over 600 million and 300 million streams on Spotify, respectively. Rich the Kid has almost 5.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
SPC considers Rich the Kid a “huge hip-hop throwback,” according to the band party chairs.
“Plug Walk” is Rich the Kid’s highest charting song, peaking at No. 13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart. His first album, “The World is Yours,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart while his latest album, “BOSS MAN,” peaked at No. 24.
Baby Tate is “one of the hottest female rappers in the scene,” according to the SPC band party chairs. She rose to fame in 2016 after releasing “Hey, Mickey!,” which incorporates Toni Basil’s 1981 hit “Hey Mickey” into the chorus. She has over five million monthly listeners on Spotify and has is known for her songs “I Am” featuring Flo Milli and “Sl*t Him Out.”“Hey Mickey!” is Baby Tate’s only song as a lead artist to rank on Billboard charts in the United States, peaking at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles and No. 21 on U.S. Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart.
