GUIDELINES FOR OPINION SUBMISSION
The Emory Wheel welcomes all members of the Emory University community to submit opinion writing. All submissions should be opinionated commentary relevant to the Emory community and our readership. All opinion articles are rigorously fact-checked and based on evidence. Opinions represented in these articles are those of the listed author, not the Wheel’s Board of Editors, the Editorial Board, the Wheel or Emory University. To maintain the integrity of the newspaper and follow standard journalism ethics, neither writers nor editors are permitted to contribute to both the opinion and news sections of the Wheel.
Submission
All submissions should be submitted in a Google Doc to the opinion editors for consideration. Find contact information for the opinion editors on our editors webpage. Please submit your draft as a Google Doc with share access set to “Anyone can edit.”
Please provide a link to your submission through this form.
Op-Eds
Op-eds are written on a subject of the author’s choice but must be grounded in fact. Authors’ names must be published alongside their op-ed. Authors should have a pertinent connection to the Emory community. Unlike a reported article, an op-ed is persuasive writing with clear and defendable thesis, accompanied by evidence and analysis. Please limit op-eds to 800 words.
Letters to the Editor
Letters to the editor (LTEs) may be written to editors of the Wheel as responses to specific articles or op-eds. All LTEs should be limited to 300 words. These letters should be addressed to the editors at the Wheel or the Wheel’s readership and not an individual or group. Submissions that are written anonymously or have been previously published will not be accepted.
Open Letters
Open letters address a specific group or individual at Emory, usually a public figure, with a clear message or request. Open letters are signed by a significant number of Emory community members, including students, faculty, staff or alumni and should be addressed to a party other than the Wheel or its editors. Open letters should be limited to 300 words.
Editing Guidelines
Please note that the Wheel sends all articles through at least four rounds of edits. If the piece you are submitting is particularly timely or relevant, please be sure to communicate that with the section editors that you are working with. The rounds of edits are as follows:

Publication Policies
The Wheel reserves the right to decide which submissions to publish. While the editors consider all submissions to the Wheel for publication, be aware that irrelevancy, improper submission and unwillingness to commit to edits are all legitimate reasons to not publish a submission. The Wheel typically does not publish articles previously published by another news outlet.
After submission, all articles become the property of the Wheel and are subject to editing for grammar, irrelevancy, libelous content and length. The Wheel does not remove content from the website. In the event that an article contains incorrect information, the editors will correct the inaccuracy and state why it has been altered.
