Emory University admitted 336 Early Decision II (ED2) applicants to Emory College of Arts and Sciences (ECAS), Oxford College or both — which was a decrease of nine students from last year — according to data from Assistant Director of University Communications Rachel Smith.
In this cycle, ECAS accepted 235 applicants and Oxford accepted 153 applicants to the University’s Class of 2029. Out of the 336 accepted students, Emory admitted 52 to both colleges. In 2024, ECAS accepted 32 more students, and Oxford accepted 14 fewer.
This year, the acceptance rate for ED2 applicants at ECAS was 10% and 11% for Oxford. ECAS’s acceptance rate for ED2 dropped by 2% compared to last year, while Oxford’s ED2 acceptance rate remained 11%.
Emory remained test-optional for the Class of 2029, but the University has not announced whether applicants applying to be a part of Emory’s Class of 2030 will be required to submit SAT or ACT scores. The University initially went test-optional in the 2020-2021 application cycle due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Under the Early Decision I plan, Emory admitted 805 students to ECAS and 400 students to Oxford, 210 of which Emory admitted to both campuses.
Chloe Jennings, who Emory admitted this cycle, is an aspiring chemistry major on the pre-medical track. She said she could see herself fitting in at Emory after watching vloggers at the University.
“I’ve watched so many YouTube videos, just any sort of media about people who go to Emory or have attended Emory and them explaining just how they love it there,” Jennings said. “Those influenced me into my decision.”
Jennings added that she liked the warmer climate of the South compared to the weather in the northern United States.
“I’ve known for about a year or so that I wanted to go to Emory,” Jennings said. “I’m from Michigan, and I just can’t really do the weather anymore.”
As the daughter of an Emory alumna, ED2 admitted student Maddy Zdrilic said she had visited Emory’s campus from her hometown Alpharetta, Ga., throughout her childhood.
In high school, Zdrilic participated in the Atlanta Urban Debate League and the Summer Institute for the Gifted, which took place on Emory’s campus.
“I’ve just been trying to stay on campus as much as possible, and now I actually get to,” Zdrilic said.
ED2 admittee Stephanie Wu, who hopes to major in business with a concentration in accounting, said she was drawn to Emory because of the student-to-faculty ratio. Wu’s high school class only had 12 people, so she hoped Emory would allow her to meet more people while maintaining a close academic environment.
“I’m excited about meeting people because I’ve been around the same 10 people for four years,“ Wu said.
Wu said she wanted to come to Emory after taking a campus tour and comparing it with other colleges.
“If I go here, I know I’m going to be happy,” Wu said. “I was confident that it would be a good fit.”
