Entering an auto at Emory Clinic Lowergate East Parking Deck
The Emory Police Department (EPD) responded to a call from an Emory University Hospital (EUH) patient on March 10 after an unknown individual stole the patient’s Adidas duffel bag from her Dodge Durango.
The patient parked her car at about 2:15 p.m. and returned around 4 p.m., when she noticed someone had broken into it. The patient said her duffel bag was worth about $40, and several types of medication, some clothing, pill organizers, and toiletries were worth approximately $150, along with $200 in cash.
The victim claimed she was confident that she had locked her car but later second-guessed herself. The report said that the car showed no signs of forced entry. The case remains open but is inactive as there are no further leads.
Theft by taking at the EUH gift shop
EPD responded to a gift shop employee’s complaint on March 14 that an unknown party had stolen money from bank envelopes stored in a filing cabinet in the EUH gift shop. The complainant reported that the envelopes had $567, Vaughn said.
The employee said she noticed the money was missing on March 11 and reported it to her supervisor. She said employees count the money and document totals received at the end of shifts when the store closes. The employee said she noticed a small amount of money missing daily for about a week when conducting this process.
The employee narrowed the suspect down to a few people who had access to the cabinet. Vaughn said EPD is currently investigating the case.
Simple battery at EUH
An EUH nurse entered a patient’s room on March 14 at about 4:45 p.m. to check on a screaming patient. When the nurse leaned over the patient, the patient slapped the nurse in the face The patient said she hit the nurse because she believed the nurse was attempting to steal from her, Vaughn said.
Vaughn said the patient allegedly suffers from mental instability, but her exact condition is unknown. The patient’s family members said the patient’s behavior has been escalating recently. Vaughn said it is unclear if the patient’s behavior is why the EUH is treating the patient.
According to Vaughn, the nurse does not plan to press charges.
