The Emory University Police Department (EPD) gave an all-clear message at 10:09 a.m. on Nov. 30 after a report of an armed robbery at the Emory Point CVS, according to an email from EPD Chief Burt Buchtinec. A series of Emory alerts that started at 8:57 a.m. told community members to avoid the area, take shelter and stay away from the parking decks near Emory Point.
An Atlanta 911 call alerted EPD to the robbery at 8:19 a.m., according to police radio recordings. EPD, the Atlanta Police Department and the DeKalb County Police Department all responded and conducted an area search, after which they gave an all-clear.
A male subject armed with a handgun and a male CVS employee stole items from the store, according to a public safety notice issued to the Emory community. The two subjects fled the scene after police arrived, with the CVS employee last seen entering the parking deck at Emory Point, The two suspects fled separately, and neither have been located as of press time.
The safety notice described the armed subject as a Black male approximately six feet tall and weighing 175 to 190 pounds. While committing the robbery, the male was wearing a yellow surgical mask.
In an email to the Emory community, Buchtinec noted that the event remains an active police investigation.
“Our top priority will always be the safety and security of the Emory community,” Buchtinec wrote.
