Students enrolled in the Emory College of Arts and Sciences can expect 70% of Fall 2021 classes to be in person, according to a March 17 email from the Office for Undergraduate Education.
Fall 2021 classes for Emory and Oxford Colleges are planned to start on Aug. 25, according to the tentative 2021-2022 academic calendar. Graduate students in the Goizueta Business School will begin fall classes on Aug. 9 and the School of Law will start classes on Aug. 16.
Unlike Fall 2020, no classes will be held on Labor Day and there will be a fall break from Oct. 11-12. Classes are scheduled to end on Dec. 7, with final exams taking place from Dec. 8-18.
The pre-registration process for fall courses normally opens in March. This year, the University delayed the process to allow time to “better assess the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic conditions” as well as information about the vaccine rollout. The delay also gave departments time to plan for more in-person courses, the email stated.
Students with 75 or more credit hours will be able to register for fall courses starting on May 17 at 12 p.m. until May 18 at 5 p.m. Those with 45 to 74.99 credits can register for fall classes from May 20 at 12 p.m. to May 21 at 5 p.m., while students with up to 44.99 credits can register from May 24 at 12 p.m. to May 25 at 5 p.m.
Although students will have more opportunities for in-person classes next semester, the University said they should still “expect to have some online experiences.” Fall courses will either be completely online or in person, or a hybrid of both online and in person.
Spring 2022 classes are scheduled to begin on Jan. 11, 2022. No classes will occur on Martin Luther King Day. Unlike Spring 2021, the University plans to include a spring break period between March 7-11, 2022. Spring classes are scheduled to end April 25, 2022, with finals exams held between April 26 and May 6, 2022.
Oxford commencement ceremony is planned for May 7, 2022 and the Atlanta commencement ceremony will occur on May 9, 2022.
Oxford College has not released information to students about its fall plans. However, it will follow a similar academic schedule as the Atlanta campus, as indicated in the Office of the Registrar’s 2021-2022 academic calendar. Oxford Director of Communications Cathy Wooten did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
The email also stated that housing assignments are expected to come out at the end of March.
