Four students at Emory University’s Oxford campus were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal damage to property for an incident that occurred at the University of Georgia’s (UGA) Sanford Stadium last November.

Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court Judge Benjamin Makin issued arrest warrants on Jan. 15 for Taylor Anderson (21Ox), Grace Johnson (20Ox), Katherine Tyrone (20Ox) and Berwyn Lu (21Ox).

The students were booked into Athens-Clarke County Jail and released on bond. Anderson, Johnson and Tyrone were released on Jan. 17, and Lu was released on Jan. 23, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.

Mark Delafchell, director of Building Services for the UGA Athletics Department, reported that four individuals entered Sanford Stadium on Nov. 20, 2019 at around 8:15 p.m. and damaged a 6-by-15 foot section of the turf in the stadium, which was estimated to cost more than $500, according to a UGA police report. The damage to the field occurred prior to a football game between the UGA Bulldogs and the Texas A&M Aggies on Nov. 23.

11Alive reported that the damage was caused by the students pouring salt onto the field.

The police report also notes that police found three stadium seat-backs missing which led to the addition of the burglary charge.

A Jan. 30 email from Emory Assistant Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Laura Diamond stated that the University is aware of the incident.

“We are cooperating with the University of Georgia in this matter. We are unable to provide additional information at this time,” the statement reads.
