Although All-American Emory University softball player Megan Light ('14C) has graduated, her legacy continues on, as she was named one of the nine finalists for the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
This prestigious award honors well-rounded female student athletes who have not only excelled in athletic performance, but who have also been successful in academic, community service and leadership areas.
Light was originally among 446 student-athletes who were nominated for the award and now stands among the nine finalists, including athletes of various sports from colleges across the nation that belong to different divisions.
During her time at Emory, Light was a three-time All-American and a four-time All-University Athletic Association First Team selectee.
She was chosen as the confer- ence's Most Outstanding Player three times. Additionally, she served as the captain of the squad during both her junior and senior year seasons.
In addition to breaking records on the field, Light also proved to be an exceptional student during her time at Emory.
She majored in Anthropology and Human Biology, graduating with a 3.96 GPA and being named to the Dean's List every semester. Among other academic achievements, Light was also selected as the Capitol One Division III Academic All-American of the Year in softball.
The winner of the award will be announced Oct. 19 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year awards event.
