Our Opinion: Homecoming an Overall Success

Another Homecoming weekend has come and gone. This year's celebration included performances by Swedish DJ pair Cazzette, comedian Amy Schumer and rock band Slightly Stoopid. While this year's Homecoming went over seemingly without a hitch, we found that the weekend's events left some potential untapped.

The events were not well attended - in part, we feel, because of the weekend's conflict with the CounterPoint music festival. This, of course, was an unavoidable conflict that, given the advance preparation required for Homecoming, we could not reasonably expect the Emory Student Programming Council to avoid.

The mass email that the SPC sent to the Emory community announcing the schedule for the weekend was extremely helpful for getting the word out. However, we feel that an additional effort should have been made to advertise for the events. Not only would advanced advertising have created campus-wide anticipation, but we also feel that it would have increased turnout at events by raising general knowledge of the schedule.

Advertising issues aside, we also feel that the SPC deserves congratulations for ensuring the organization and success of this year's Homecoming. The free food and high quality beer was much appreciated. Security was kept tight and events ran smoothly, allowing everyone to enjoy the festivities.
